The 2012 International Council Convention in Norman, OK overflowed with excitement. To show ALSAC’s appreciation for ESA’s dedicated 40 years of fundraising for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, ALSAC staff member Donna Young gave a presentation on a new naming space at St. Jude just for ESA. Located at the Patient Care Plaza on the first floor of the hospital, this space was chosen because patients enter or pass through every day. It is located near the St. Jude school, a perfect location for an organization dedicated to education and association.
November 1, 2012 was the big day for ESA. More than 300 ESA members from across the country gathered at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to witness the official unveiling of ESA’s new dedicated space.
The dedication began in the newly renovated St. Jude Pavilion, where members and guests were welcomed by ALSAC and St. Jude staff members. ALSAC CEO Rick Shadyac spoke to ESA members, thanking them for their continued service to the hospital and for continuing to work toward Danny Thomas’s dream. A St. Jude patient family also joined the festivities and spoke about their connection with ESA and how ESA’s support made such a difference not only in their lives, but in the lives of all St. Jude patients over the years.
Smiles and joy filled the room as members of the Executive Board, ESA Membership Board, ESA Foundation, and ALSAC staff cut the ribbon for the official opening of ESA’s floor in St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. After the ribbon cutting, attendees were able to walk through the hallways and observe the beautiful murals that reflected ESA’s relationship and long history with St. Jude.
Throughout the years since the dedication, ESA members have enjoyed visiting the ESA floor and reflecting on our special relationship with St. Jude.
