A Glimpse in Time: Push to $200 Million

At the 2014 International Council Convention in Portland, OR the stage was set. The 2013-2014 ESA year was full of fun tried and true events members loved. Now, it was time to celebrate together and see just how much was raised for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The presentation of dollars revealed more than $15 million in cash and pledges for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital from 2013-2014. This amount made the new lifetime total $191,754,306 for the hospital. To push that number past $200 million, a new campaign was launched.

The 25th annual IC Challenge in 2014 started the push to $200 million off with a bang! It was filled with fun, laughter, and games! The event featured a wonderful walk down memory lane with a slideshow and stories from people who attended the last 25 years of Challenges. As the games wrapped up, the event total was announced… $104,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, making the lifetime total over $2.5 million from IC Challenges alone!

The goal was a lifetime total of $200 million in cash and pledges for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by the International Convention in 2015. One year and one exciting challenge! Each chapter had to come up with one additional cash event to push to total over the top.

As an added incentive, each chapter that did one additional cash event was added to a drawing for some really great prizes.

Anticipation was high in Orlando, FL for the 68th International Council Convention in 2015. With a total of 64 chapters and councils who sent in additional donations, the Push to $200 Million campaign was a success! ESA members raised an additional $32,264.12 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in just one year. That brought the lifetime total to $208,481,989 in cash and pledges since ESA first partnered with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in 1972!

Although everyone felt like a winner, Rho Chi Chapter of St. Charles, MO took the grand prize with a “Pie in the Face” event. The event was held in a member’s office and allowed staff members to “pie” their bosses for a donation.  The chance to pie their bosses boosted moral and raised $450 in just one week.
