The story of ESA and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® began in 1969 when ESA member Judy Lester met St. Jude founder Danny Thomas at an event in Florida. The two got to talking, Judy enthralled with Danny’s new hospital (then only seven years old), and Danny interested in the service group Judy belonged to, Epsilon Sigma Alpha. Judy invited Danny to speak at the 1970 International Council Convention. ESA members fell in love with St. Jude as soon as they learned about it, and two years later in 1972, ESA officially adopted St. Jude as our national philanthropy. Danny was a great friend to ESA, attending nearly all of the IC Conventions until his death in 1991.

In the 50 years since the partnership began, St. Jude has made enormous strides in the fight against childhood cancer and other deadly diseases. ESA has proudly supported the hospital through countless volunteer hours and funds raised for events like Dream Homes, Radiothons. Walk/Runs, galas, gold tournaments, dinners, garage sales, bunco parties, and so much more. ESA is committed to serving alongside St. Jude until Danny’s dream is fulfilled, that “no child should die in the dawn of life”.
